DonsProxy History

The original DonsProxy was conceived and begun at a client site in 1998. Can you believe it? That seems like so long ago. Over the years, many people contributed ideas, some contributed code. Many, many, many thanks to Ken C., Rusty P., and Ross S. It always seemed like there could be a better name for it, but people kept calling it DonsProxy, so the name stuck, and I'll keep it that for now. It's probably just vanity, but maybe it really does have that certain ring to it. ;)

After leaving that client site in 2003, I had in mind that someday I would completely re-write DonsProxy without using any of the original code, use Java's new channel I/O instead of the old pipe-based version, restructure everything so that it's more OO now and less JOBOL, and release it as open source. Now, finally, in 2007 I made the time to get it done. Thanks to James Wilson jw_mt, Karl M., and James E. for encouragement that it is still a useful tool to have around.
